WELCOME

I believe in honoring all paths to parenthood. I'm Sohayla Samimi and I’m really glad you’re here. My work is rooted in trauma-informed care, respect for human dignity, and the belief that every person deserves safety, choice, and support during pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I approach this work with deep humility, lived experience, and a commitment to meeting people exactly where they are. Pregnancy and early parenthood can be powerful, beautiful, and deeply challenging. Birth is one of the most memorable experiences of a lifetime. Mental health matters in these seasons, not as an afterthought, but as a foundation. Much of my work focuses on the nervous system, emotional regulation, and how trauma shows up in the body during labor, birth, and postpartum. Healing is possible when people feel safe, heard, and supported. I believe in listening first. In knowing when to sit quietly and hold space, and when to gently offer tools, education, or advocacy. I am nonjudgmental by practice and by principle. I support clients in learning how to trust themselves, advocate for their needs, and build confidence in their own wisdom. My approach integrates nutrition for mood and prevention, mindset and emotional regulation, prenatal bonding and co-regulation, and understanding the role of the nervous system in labor and birth. I teach practical tools such as thought-stopping, reframing “stinking thinking,” and using affirmations to support both emotional and physical resilience. Community matters to me. I believe healing does not happen in isolation, and that people who experience injustice already hold the answers for how systems need to change. I am here not only to support individuals, but to be part of a larger movement toward dignity, access, and collective care. I measure success by the quality of relationships, trust, and momentum toward change, not by financial gain. I believe safety should never be a luxury, and that all people deserve to have their needs met. If you are looking for care that is honest, respectful, grounded, and deeply human, you are in the right place. I would be honored to walk alongside you.

What a Doula Does

A doula provides continuous, non-medical support throughout pregnancy, labor, birth, and the postpartum period. We center emotional safety, physical support, informed choice, and nervous system regulation, recognizing that how someone feels in their body directly affects how birth is experienced.

Doula support is relational, not clinical. The role is not to make decisions or give medical advice, but to support the birthing person and their family in feeling informed, grounded, and supported at every stage.

Emotional Support

We tune in to the non-clinical needs of the birthing person. Influencing the environment to meet the childbearing person’s needs and wishes focusing attention specifically on the birthing person and their partner/loved one’s level of comfort. Doulas are there to listen, validate, and create a pathway for parents to emotionally process the many changes that can happen in the birth room and with growing their family.

Physical Support

Doulas offer hands-on, practical support to help the body cope with pregnancy, labor, and recovery.

This may include:

  • Positioning and movement to support comfort and labor progress

  • Breathwork and relaxation techniques

  • Touch, counter-pressure, and grounding support

  • Support with rest, hydration, and energy conservation

  • Uses various tools specifically to support labor progress, pain management and provide comfort through pregnancy and birth

Physical support is always consent-based and adapted to the individual’s needs and preferences.

Reliable Information

It can be difficult and overwhelming to sift through the variety of content online to find accurate, current and culturally relevant information. Finding reliable information will give you confidence and clarity as you're making truly informed decisions regarding the care you & your baby will receive. You will also have an empowered understanding of what to expect for your birthing experience.

A doula helps clients understand what is happening in their bodies and what options are available to them.

This includes:

  • Evidence-based education during pregnancy

  • Preparation for labor, birth, and postpartum transitions

  • Explaining common procedures, terminology, and choices

  • Helping clients think through preferences and plans

Education is offered without pressure or agenda. The goal is clarity, not compliance.

Advocacy

A doula's role as an advocate is to amplify your voice by helping to ensure your birth and postpartum plans & preferences are communicated to everyone who is a part of the health care team, and those in your circle of support. Doulas help identify questions to ask their care team, supporting clear communication of needs and preferences. We encourage open communication and shared decision-making with medical providers, supporting you to pause, ask, and choose. A doula should not speak over a client or replace medical professionals. Centering you as the guiding voice of your experience and improving communication is always my priority.

What a Doula Is Not

A doula:

  • Does not provide medical care

  • Does not replace doctors, midwives, nurses, or partners

  • Does not make decisions for clients

  • Does not judge choices or outcomes

The role is to support, not manage.
